Both Ian and Patrick represented Newtown today at the Connecticut State Nutmeg Games at 130lbs. Unfortunately for them they were both in the same division which crowned Ian the champion and Patrick the runner-up. But their hard work and determination made sure that both wrestlers were in the finals to make it Newtown vs. Newtown.
This is the second year in a row that had a Newtown wrestler win 130lb gold at Nutmegs.

Newtown was strongly represented at the recent Danbury-based Mustang Wrestling Camp with participation from 14 boys from the Over The Top Wrestling Club.
Now in its seventh year, the camp — known formally as Mad Hatter Camp — was held at Danbury's Immaculate High School and run by Immaculate Head Coach Brian Hayes for both boys and girls ages 6-18.

Newtown's youth wrestling program saw four wrestlers take home state titles at the USA Wrestling State Championships.
The championships took place during two weekends with the kindergarten through second-grade wrestlers dueling on February 22 at Platt High School in Meriden and the grades 3-8 wrestlers dueling at Hillhouse High School in New Haven on March 1.

TRUMBULL — John Gouveia got all the way to the finals of the 130-pound weight division at the Class LL state wrestling championships, helping Newtown High School place 17th among 27 competing schools at Trumbull High on February 20 and 21.
The Nighthawks earned 46 points. Perennial powerhouse Danbury scored 252.5 points to claim the title.

Newtown's Over the Top Wrestling Club concluded the season on Jan 31 with the league championship at Danbury Police Athletic League.
In this contest between league teams from Western Connecticut, the Newtown boys performed admirably.

Newtown High School's wrestling team concluded the regular season with a 38-30 setback at Bethel on February 11 then placed sixth among 13 teams in the South-West Conference Championships, held in New Milford February 13-14.
Host New Milford captured first with 195.50 points. Newtown had 87 points to edge Stratford (86) to finish among the top half of the conference's teams.

BETHEL -- Newtown High's John Gouveia beat Bethel's Andrew Lischke in the most competitive match of the evening, but as a team the Nighthawks weren't quite as successful.
Bethel overcame three forfeits and a resilient performance by Newtown's lower weight classes, defeating Newtown 38-30 in each team's final meet of the regular season.

Newtown High School's wrestling team, like any high school wrestling team, competes in midweek dual meets as well as weekend tournaments throughout the season.
Those tourneys can be lengthy, often lasting all day with weigh-ins starting at 8 am and competition beginning at 10 and running until the mid- or late afternoon.

The ability to fill most of the weight classes did not make the Joel Barlow High wrestling team’s job any easier in its match against Newtown last week.
The Falcons could contend in all but four divisions last Wednesday, Feb. 4. The Nighthawks were more than up to the challenge, however, winning 64-12.

The Newtown Nighthawks wrestling team overpowered the Easton/Redding Region 9 Joel Barlow Falcons Wednesday night at Barlow. The score was 64 Newtown, 12 Barlow.
Newtown co-coach Angelo Bodetti was looking forward to his younger wrestlers going into this match.
